04/06/2008, 22:16 |Sure podcasting may have declined in the hype of it and the techno-elite have moved on to Twittering areas now, but podcasts or downloadable portable media is still growing and doing very well. I do believe though that the technology of podcasting will eventually disappear from user view as better user interfaces make it easier to find and connect with this media on many always connected data platforms.
I am also hoping that this xml based revolution will transform and bring efficiency to the music, television and film industries around digital download distribution.

07/04/2008, 20:15 |Filed under: Handsets, HTC, Samsung, Windows Mobile, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA
At this point, neither the HTC Touch Diamond nor the Samsung i900 Omnia need any introduction, but we're happy to announce that these two have stepped into the squared circle and faced off in an epic nine-page battle. Reviewers manhandled both phones for an extended time and broke down the UI, hardware, features and overall usability, so if that sounds like something you'd be interested in, cover your face and head on down to the read link. We're warning you though, it gets ugly.[Thanks, Chavdar]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
After Selling My Mini, Reflecting On The Cars I've Owned
07/03/2008, 02:49 |Kind of sad today. I sold my Mini. Make that my beloved Mini. I shouldn't be so sad, as I'll be getting a new one when I get to the "other side" next week, back home to California. Still, some cars have souls, and I'll really miss my baby. And that got me thinking about the cars I've had over the years. Some were special; some got me by -- lots of memories with all of them.
I've heard it said many times that especially for Southern California, you're defined by what you drive. Perhaps. For my first cars there, I drove things more out of circumstance than choice. But that, of course, did define me. Not much money and picking up whatever I could afford or get handed down to me.

Warner Music Group content will also be available through the Nokia Music Store. Nokia is believed to be in discussions with other music labels

07/03/2008, 02:52 |It is nice to see Sprint clearing the air and letting us the Motorola Q9c is alive and well... and from the looks of it, popular! Well it might not be super popular but it is popular enough to out of stock in the Sprint warehouses and that has to say something. In the meantime if you are looking to pick up a Motorola Q9c your best bet would probably be to grab one from your local Sprint store.

Motorola's worldly Q9: "Napoleon" breaks cover for Verizon
07/04/2008, 01:14 |Filed under: Cellphones, Handhelds
It looks like Motorola and Verizon are getting ready to take a third crack at the Q9 form factor, following up the Q9m and Q9c -- and this time around, there's a little something extra in store. On top of the EV-DO Rev. A radio, the so-called "Napoleon" (codename, of course) features GSM, because -- surprise, surprise -- businesspeople who use Windows Mobile devices tend to do just a bit of traveling. It looks like Moto has taken this opportunity to give the Q9 meme a little nip-tuck job, too, with a rounded body and a tastefully-applied ring of chrome around the top edge. They've even tossed in a fingerprint scanner for good measure, a tip o' the hat to the suits who'll undoubtedly populate the upper 90 percent of this sucker's client base. No word on a release date or price, but can we cautiously submit a thumbs-up for the design direction here?Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsThe best thing you?ll see today: Portal gun in Half-Life 2
10/18/2007, 11:20 |Filed under: Hacks, PC, First Person Shooters
We’ll be honest. We’ve got it bad. Portal, we’re addicted to it. What started off as a fling with the perceived one-night floozy of the Orange Box lineup has turned into a serious long-term relationship. We find ourselves going through the other Orange Box offerings - and real life, we’ll be honest - thinking, “Gee, I wish I had the Portal gun here.”
Thanks to hard work and years of studying (stay in school, kids) the alchemists at Primotech have transformed blood and sweat into an incredible hack that lets you create portals all over the lovely, quasi-European walls of Half-Life 2’s City 17. Some notes: you’ll obviously need the PC version, you’ll need to follow some dozen steps full of words like “hosing,” and you’ll want to keep a fresh pair of pants nearby. But before you get to all that, peep the video […]

T-Mobile first to blanket UK in HSUPA
07/04/2008, 05:06 |
What's the first network to claim a true, full HSPA across all of the United Kingdom? Vodafone? Orange? 3? Nope -- try T-Mobile, which has just flipped the switch on its HSUPA upgrades nationwide to bring upload speeds to a blazing 1.4Mbps (theoretically, anyway). The figured they'd commemorate the occasion by giving download speeds a little boost, too, so those are now up to 7.2Mbps, making Great Britain an absolutely fabulous place to do a little mobile computing right now. Oh, and hey, T-Mobile USA, you could seriously learn a lesson or two from your counterparts across the Atlantic here.[Via Tech Digest]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

RSS On Your Mobile Device in 30 Seconds
02/26/2008, 01:05 |Okay maybe it?ll take 60 seconds. The process for getting NewsGator Go! on your mobile device used to be somewhat cumbersome. You had to create an account using NewsGator Online, request a download link in NewsGator Online, wait for an email with instructions, and the proceed.
Well, that?s old news. Now the entire process can be done from your device in just 2 steps (it is in beta, so keep that in mind).
Got to http://mbeta.newsgator.com/d (don?t forget the /d for download) and grab the installer. Once the process is flushed out completely, we?ll drop ?beta? from the url:

Fire up the client. If you already have an account you?re done and off to the races. If not, just enter a username and password and you?re done (we?ll create an account for you on the fly):

If you just created a new account, you?ll be teed up with a mobile starter pack.

At this point, you are good to Go! with mobile RSS! That was easy, yeh? You can always add more feeds or tweak your settings from Go!, NewsGator Online, or one of our awesome and FREE clients (FeedDemon, NetNewsWire, or Inbox). Thanks TD for helping with the html and artwork.
Enjoy!

07/03/2008, 19:44 |Cellufun Recruits Keith Katz and Tom Burgess
07/02/2008, 17:05 |The mobile game and entertainment company Cellufun adds two new executives to its management team. Tom Burgess will sit on the advisory board and Keith Katz will become VP of Marketing. Both new hires are mobile industry veterans and have experience in the entertainment and advertising businesses.
Tom Burgess is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Battery Ventures. He was t
he Founder and CEO of Third Screen Media, a mobile advertising network AOL bought in 2007. An executive in online and wireless interactive marketing technology, Mr. Burgess is a pioneer of innovative advertising solutions and holds a patent in wireless advertising. He will assist Cellufun as it develops new advertising models.
“Cellufun’s growth and incredible volume of active subscribers excited me enough to learn more and eventually join the team to bring my mobile advertising and startup growth experience to the table as advisor to the company,” states Tom Burgess. “This company is on an impressive trajectory and I’m happy to be a part of that.”
Keith Katz is the former Head of North American Marketing for mobile gaming company Gameloft. Before that, he worked for Atari in global brand management and had his own startup called Little Upstarts
that promotes physical development in infants and toddlers. Mr.Katz also worked for the NFL in brand marketing. Early in his career he worked for Feld Entertainment where he marketed family brands such as Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and Disney on Ice. Mr. Katz will develop Cellufun?s brand and market the mobile solution Cellufun provides to service providers, media companies, major brands and advertisers.
“I couldn’t be more excited about joining Cellufun. As someone with a background in both console and mobile video games, I see Cellufun at the epicenter of both worlds. This company is truly unique its ability to entice both very casual and avid gamers to pick up their mobile devices to play games. Cellufun’s offerings have the “stickiness” and community feel of an MMO like World of Warcraft or Second Life that avid gamers crave, but they also possess the “pick up and playability” that many casual Web and mobile game players prefer. These are characteristics that simply don’t exist elsewhere in the mobile world, so a company with a consumer proposition like this is really a marketing person’s dream.”
Kodak EasyShare C875 Digital Camera
01/01/1970, 01:00 |
Every Thursday night is Bingo Night at my local dive bar. The prize for hitting five in a row? Free drink tickets. And a good round can mean endless photo ops for me and my crew. As excited as I was to start capturing the, uh, memories, I was a little disappointed by this camera's bulk. At just over 6 ounces and 1.4 inches thick, there's no squeezing it into a back pocket. But 8-megapixel resolution, combined with a sharp 5X optical zoom, guaranteed that every celebratory shot of Jameson was captured. Reliving the hilarity the morning (or afternoon) after was a snap. I just hooked the cam to my computer via the included USB cable and transferred the images with the push of a button. Next Thursday, I'll probably opt to leave this beefy cam at home, but I'll cherish those intoxicating images forever.
