Those who are still holding on the notion that Microsoft will be releasing Internet Explorer Mobile 6 for download in the near future will greatly be disappointed to hear that it won?t be made available for installation on existing handsets. Citing that its “rich media experience” is too much for present devices to handle, an employee of the company has put to rest questions on whether the upgrade to Microsoft?s current ailing mobile internet browser will become available for download.

It?s really disheartening to hear such news especially since other developers have managed to come out with more capable applications and distribute them through the internet. It?s either Microsoft?s approach in developing their new internet browser is completely messed up or they just want to bolster sales of new Windows Mobile-powered devices by limiting the availability of Internet Explorer 6 on these devices. Anyway, I?m sure the general public won?t be too thrilled to hear this bit of news, and they?d rather install a 3rd party internet browser than be forced into buying a new mobile device just to avail of Internet Explorer 6.

Thanks to the new Google sync, BlackBerry users will soon be getting a taste of how it feels to live the Android life. While the HTC G1 may lack a desktop sync tool, it does feature automatic syncing with Gmail?s address book and vice-versa, providing you with a safe way of backing up your contacts on the internet. This same feature is now headed BlackBerry?s way and, in true Google fashion, it?s free of charge.

For instructions on how to get the Google Sync update, just head on over to mobile.googl.com/sync and enter your phone number. Once complete, an appropriate link will be sent to your mobile phone. I guess this is Google?s way of spreading the love to the rest of the mobile community even if you?re not yet ready to hop on the Android bandwagon.

Internet browsing on your mobile phone today has definitely come along way from. Now you can enjoy visiting your favorite websites on your mobile phone as if you were seated right in front of your desktop PC. However, with a variety of different phones, mobile operating systems and mobile internet browsers out now, which phone has the best internet browsing experience? Gizmodo apparently had the same question when they conducted the great mobile phone internet browser face-off.

The following tables show some key figures regarding the different phones used in this showdown. Page rendering is rated as Fail to Excellent, while the color takes into account both page rendering accuracy and speed. Those in green are generally good scores, while those in red are failing marks.

This first table shows how the phones fared against each other using a 3G connection.

This second table, on the other hand, uses WiFi.

Based on their findings, despite lacking Flash support, the iPhone is still the best mobile phone/portable internet device in the market with a decent rating of A-. Coming in at number two is the Android-based G1 which merited a B+ while the Nokia E71 and BlackBerry Bold each got a B-. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer got the lowest mark with an F-. Interestingly, some phones such as the E71 managed to load some pages (Hubble on Wikipedia) better on a 3G connection as compared to WiFi.

Anyhow, this may be a limited comparison, but I guess it’s safe to assume that if mobile internet browsing is your cup of tea, you can’t go wrong with the iPhone, HTC G1, Nokia E71 or BlackBerry Bold. Over the past mast there have been two cell phones that stand out above the rest, the BlackBerry Storm and the T-Mobile G1 Google Android phone. The G1 has been on the marker for about a month now, and it has not made the impression that all the hype promised.

The BlackBerry Strom has been out for almost a week in the UK, and is due for release on Friday, in the U.S. There is a worry that the phone will not do well on this date, as it is Thanksgiving. It seems to me that Verizon have not thought the release dates through.

Both phones have a touch screen, but the G1 also comes with a QUERTY keyboard. Looking at both phones the BlackBerry Storm has the edge in style and design. Both handsets have their good and bad points, but I think that the Storm is going to do much better than the G1, but remember; this is the first Google phone and better is yet to come.

There?s been some controversy regarding the unbelievably low price of Nokia?s first full touchscreen phone, the Nokia 5800 XPressMusic. We reported a while back that it?s debuting in Russia and Spain with a significantly higher price tag than what was previously announced, but it turns out that this price includes some added perks.

Original reports pegged the 5800 XpressMusic phone for ?429 or roughly $550 in Spain. However, we?ve now learned that this price includes a 100 Euro voucher for music downloads and a 3 month subscription to Nokia Maps Voice Navigation service. It?s still a ?279 phone, but in fairness, that price does include some additional services and goodies. It?s a nice bundle although I would have preferred to have been given the option of just getting the phone as opposed to strictly limiting my purchase powers to the bundled package.

Call me a bit paranoid, but the sight of this phone from Motorola gives me the chills that there might be a new RAZR-trend looming on the horizon.

Motorola has just announced the VE66. It’s a new slider that looks a lot like the ZN5, Motorla and Kodaks little collaboration. The VE66 sports a 5-megapixel auto-focus camera with LED flash, image stabilization, WiFi, CrystalTalk noise reduction and a navigation wheel.

That all sounds pretty good, but the familiar design choice is freaking me out. I’m really hoping Motorola hasn’t regained an infatuation with the old RAZR design that dominated the entire Motorola collection the past couple of years. Is my paranoia getting the best of me? I sincerely hope so.

No word on pricing, but availability is scheduled for the last quarter of 2008 which should mean any day now.

Taking a page out of the Nintendo Wii?s playbook, the iFun app turns your iPhone/iPod Touch into a wireless controller used for game play. It?s specifically designed to work with iFun games and there are a reported four games available ? baseball, basketball, bowling and golf - however, only golf was accessible when I visited thee site.

The game itself is hosted on the internet and the app for the iPhone only enables it to become a wireless controller. Registration is required before you can play, but there is no need to worry about paying fees since both the iFun app and registration are free of charge.

I?ve tried it out myself and there’s a considerable delay when performing an action and seeing it replicated on the screen. This is understandable considering that all the data is fed through the internet. It should also be noted that the iPhone?s sleek form factor isn?t the most easy to handle especially if you’re swinging the device around like a golf club. Extra care should be exercised so as not to accidentally hit someone with a flying iPhone.

Nevertheless, this latest gaming app does show a lot of potential. If the developer could find a way to resolve the lag and come out with more games to support such an interface, I have no doubt that this will be a future best seller.

Sony has announced a 12.25 megapixel CMOS image sensor for cell phones, it will start shipping in March 2009.

We?ve seen the official specs of the LG Prada 2 already, but since then, we haven?t had any news about this QWERTY-equipped follow-up to the original Prada phone.

That wait is over. LG has now launched an official microsite, reminding us that such a phone still exists. Aside from the phone itself, they also feature an equally stylish Bluetooth watch they so aptly called the Prada Link. We?re guessing it can be used in tandem with the Prada 2 phone so you can control it remotely Dick Tracy-style. There?s also a headset and leather pouch to go along with this branded line, but we?re not exactly sure if its part of the standard package of accessories or if you need to purchase it separately. We?re hoping that it?s the former as opposed to the latter, but at this point, we?re not ready to make any assumptions.

Sadly we have yet to receive confirmation on its final selling price and exact release date. Oh well, a little patience never hurt anyone, but looking at the LG Prada 2’s microsite sure got me interested all of a sudden.

Good news for HTC Touch Pro hopefuls! A week after popping up with Bell, the QWERTY-enabled handset is now officially available with Telus.

The Touch Pro showed up on the Telus website in the last 24 hours for $299.99 on a 3-year contract, $549.99 on a 2-year contract, $599.99 for a single year, and $649.99 contract-free.

It?s obviously more expensive than what Bell is offering, but if you fancy Telus as a provider, than the heftier price tag of the Touch Pro shouldn?t be much of an issue for you. At least you now have options as to where to get your Pro on.

To show the rest of the world that they?re in this game to win, RIM is putting together a team to work on an LTE-capable BlackBerry phone.

This is in anticipation of LTE high-speed data networks sprouting up in the near future, replacing the now standard 3G networks of today. If Motorola had it their way, we could see LTE deployment as early as 2009, though a more rational and conservative prediction points to 2011 debut. RIM, for their part, wants to assure the public that they won?t be left behind this time around, a position they found themselves in when 3G networks came around.

We’ve heard about plans for a 4G network from both Bell and Telus, so I guess it’s only fitting that mobile phone manufacturers get busy on the handsets. Let?s hope that this isn?t just pure propaganda and that they?ll definitely have one ready when the time comes. Given RIM’s reputation, I’m keeping my fingers, toes and arms crossed and praying to the high heavens that this bit of news is indeed true.

What looks like a concept phone is actually a working device that?s commercially available in Europe. The Toshiba G450 is a cellphone, MP3 player and HSDPA USB modem all rolled into one uniquely designed mobile device.

Granted that almost any HSDPA-capable mobile phone can do any of the above, Toshiba gives the modern mobile phone their own spin which, suffice to say, is definitely one of the more peculiar looking products we?ve seen in a while. Based on a review done by IntoMobile, it pretty much does what it?s supposed to though the limited 160MB storage leaves room for improvement.

With a £140 price tag and a design that definitely goes against the grain of what we?ve grown accustomed to when dealing with mobile phones, I highly doubt that the Toshiba G450 will make a significant impact in the mobile phone industry. But that’s just me, how about you guys? Would you consider getting yourself the Toshiba G450 if it became available in your neck of the woods?

There are many things to consider before you a purchase a cell phone. One major consideration for most consumers is the price of the cell phone.

Understandably, cell phones that have very few “bells and whistles” will cost much less than a mobile phone that also serves as an MP3 player, a video camera, a camera and has a full QWERTY keyboard, although sometimes you can pick these phones up for relatively cheap if the wireless carrier is offering incentives or rebates.

What’s not included in the price of most cell phones is the wireless service to make phone calls and send text messages. Wireless plans can vary from prepaid accounts which allow subscribers to pay as they go (or use minutes) to family calling plans that offer multiple handsets for family members with a calling plan that covers all the mobile phones in the family.

You can buy a cheap prepaid cell phone at most large retailers such as Wal-Mart, Target and even some smaller drug stores. Convenient and cheap, prepaids are a popular choice for those that aren’t “heavy users.”

My advice is, check cell phone prices before you buy. Since it’s a buyer’s market, chances are you can find a better price if you search vendors before buying.

Florida Senator Carey Baker is expected to introduce new bills that limit and bans the use of a mobile phone while driving a car in the Sunshine State.

The bill calls for two new measures. One measure prohibits drivers 18 and over from sending or reading text messages when behind the wheel of a car. The other would ban the use of cell phones altogether for drivers under the age of 18.

Baker has supported other legislation that banned the use of cell phones while driving, but so far none of them have passed.
