01/01/1970, 01:00 |
PSN - Image 1Creat Studios really did get busy, and together with TikGames, they're bringing 3 new titles to the PlayStation Network. As previously reported, Magic Ball, Mahjong Tales, and Cuboid will be available for download into your PS3.

Magic Ball, under license with Alawar Entertainment, features a ball, a paddle, and a 3D environment in which you can brick targets. Alawar CEO Alexander Lyskovsky is pleased with its arrival on the platform, "The he 3D graphics are eye-catching and entertaining and the gameplay will have players engaged for many hours." Initial release will have 40 levels, and will be capable of local as well as online gameplay. Over 20 more will come at a later date.

Mahjong Tales
would be the first mahjong game on PSN, and it comes with ancient Chinese tales in a storybook adventure. Play Motion Mode to test your reflexes and coordination by matching moving tiles. Inifinity Mode lets you pick from a good stockpile of layouts and tile sets. The game features artistic, hand-illustrated images which takes advantage of the PS3 HD capabilities. Level packs and a level editor are planned for post-launch release.

Cuboid is a 3D puzzle game where you use an marked cube to navigate through crisp environments, revealing hidden treasures as you go. 11/19/2008, 21:29 |

For weeks now there have been rumors of Wal-Mart eventually carrying Apple?s iPhone 3G. Now it has been confirmed that starting December 28th, select Wal-Mart locations as well as a few Sam?s Club stores will be carrying the AT&T exclusive handset.

The iPhone 3G will be on select Wal-Mart store shelves in 2,500 locations. Sam?s Club will only be getting the iPhone 3G in 69 stores in the US. There is still no word on suspected pricing due to the fact that many would wait till after Christmas to pick up the phone at a cheaper price. AT&T is going to be supporting Wal-Mart as far as activations go. Sam?s Club kiosks that are managed by Radio Shack however will not be getting the iPhone 3G. Here is the execution timeline for the launch of the iPhone 3G.

Limited edition Bionnic Commando items available with preorder

01/01/1970, 01:00 |
If you're into Bionic Commando (PC, Xbox 360, PS3), then you're probably into retro stuff. After all, we haven't seen this title since the NES days (not counting Rearmed, which is retro-esque in itself). If you are into the retro, then there are some freebies being offered at GameStop that may interest you: Patches! (joy)

The patches will be available if you preorder the game. Mind you, supplies are limited.

Patches - Image 1

Bionic Commando Lunch box - Image 1If you don't need no stinkin' patches (they don't actually stink. I just couldn't resist saying that line). Then maybe a rare Bionic Commando lunch box? Now THAT's retro for you.

The lunchboxes are part of an extremely limited run at GameCrazy so if you've got plans to get one, I suggest you do so as soon as you're done reading. Hey, maybe they'll fetch a good price on e-bay?

Just a reminder, Bionic Commando will be released on the Playstation 3 on February 3, 2009.

QuickJump QuickPeek branches out: introducing the Weekend Warriors

01/01/1970, 01:00 |

QuickJump QuickPeek - Image 1

Hurrah! Weekends are made up of all the most awesome stuff. It's one of life's most satisfying things after all - perhaps second only to getting to scratch an annoying itch.

For one, most of us who get the weekend off (either from school or work - or both?) finally get to park our merry butts in front of the TV and play video games with impunity. Aside from that, we get to catch up on pretty much everything we missed out on during the week. Which is what we've been doing for the past 52 weeks, in case you were really living under a rock the size of Mars.

In QuickJump QuickPeek's second year, we decided to branch out... and dig deeper still. Because quite frankly, at the rate that each previous QuickPeek was going, it wasn't getting any quicker of a peek, if you get our drift. So with that, we'll be splitting it up and allow each of our blogs to go in-depth with the week's news!

Thus, we bring in the Weekend Warriors!

The QuickJump QuickPeek v2.0 changelog:

Yeap! From now on, each blog will be getting its own individual QuickPeek, each tagged under a Weekend Warrior label. This allows the individual teams to report on more news and add a little bit of editorial introspective into the week's news.

Yes, you heard us. This time around, QuickPeek - or should we now say Weekend Warrior? - won't just be recapping news. We'll be throwing in some incentive for you readers too. Little "behind-the-scenes" snippets that don't quite make it to the regular updates you find on the site.

So, who are the Weekend Warriors?

We'll have Weekend Warriors for all of our blogs in QJ.NET. That includes all gaming blogs - PSP, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, PC, MMORPG, and WoW - plus those concerning Science and Technology - Science, Apple, Gadgets, and Mobile.

Check 'em out - lined up looking all pretty like that! Shiny banners for our new columns!

Science and Technology

Weekend Warriors: Gadgets - Mobile - Image 1 Weekend Warriors: Gadgets - Mobile - Image 2

Wait - does this mean there won't be any QuickPeek anymore?

Yes and no. QuickPeek will still be around, sure! But of course, the meat of QuickPeek is in its Weekend Warrior children. Every week, once all the individual Warriors have been published, we can finally throw in the proud parent: a QuickPeek article acting as a hub.

Think of it this way. The Weekend Warriors are the branches, while the QuickPeek is the trunk. The QuickPeek will be linking to all the separate Warriors just so you guys have a central article to use as reference for jumping from one article to another.

We hope you guys have fun with the new system. If you have any comments or suggestions, you know what to do. The first set of Warriors are going up in just a couple, so stick around, why don'cha?

Samsung BlackJack Smartphone

01/01/1970, 01:00 |

IHit me! No, I'm not sitting on an ace-five hand with two Gs in the pot. I'm delirious with glee about my stuffed-to-the-gills BlackJack from Samsung. How could you not love bathing in all the geekified accessories in this package? There's a 1.3-megapixel digicam, Bluetooth, full QWERTY keyboard, instant messenger, Windows Media Player, microSD card slot, high-speed 3G connectivity, and side thumbwheel for easy navigation. Phew! After you sit down, have a glass of water, and get your bearings, you'll notice a few shortcomings: no touchscreen, no Palm OS, a clunky interface, and supershort battery life. Daily charging? Who has time for that? Still, it's a slick next-gen smartphone with more features than you'll probably need, and at least it's not called the BLKJCK. -- Erik Malinowski

Video: Drop those peripherals: Kid plays Guitar Hero: World Tour... on his bike

01/01/1970, 01:00 |
This one is just pure awesomeness. Never mind those high-priced Guitar Hero peripherals. This guy played it with his bike.

That's right, we found this video up on YouTube, posted by madflux, and in it, he rides a bike to the music of Activision's Guitar Hero: World Tour's (Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii) Prisoner of Society by The Living End set on the Difficulty mode of Hard.

Easy? Not. See, madflux and his friends recreated the whole song level, complete with notes and riffs a-flare, throughout their neighborhood. Probably inspired by Dorothy's "follow the yellow brick road" mantra, these guys put stickers on the road to replicate the notes in-game.
He also put in LED lights on the handlebar of his bike that light up along with the notes as well. Methinks this is to help him pace his ride.

It obviously took a whole lot of work to make it work, but we're glad it did. Although some would say that this is just a fake viral ad for Guitar Hero, we'd still say it was darned cool. If that's not the case, and these bunch of guys really just had a whole lot of free time in their hands, then even more props to them!

Here, have a look at it and see for yourselves (and keep a look out for that guy in the KISS costume sometime around the 3:35 mark. Coolness!) .

Researchers boast of progress with printed electronics

07/05/2008, 12:02 |

Filed under:

There's certainly no shortage of researchers working on printable electronics these days, but a group from the EU-funded CONTACT project is now boasting of a "major step" towards being able to print electronics on everyday materials. At the moment, they seem to be focused primarily on printing organic TFT displays directly onto glass plates, which apparently required the use of some aggressive solvents that "attack" the organic materials between the TFT and liquid crystal layers. Their current Labratester 1 printer (pictured above) apparently still has some problems precisely lining up each layer, however, but they say that'll be fixed with the addition of some optical cameras in the Labratester 2 machine they're now working on. Eventually, they say the system could be used to easily and cheaply print displays directly on watch faces or glasses, or even print other electronics onto paper or other fabrics.
